Latest issue Water Alternatives

In June 2011 the latest issue of Water Alternatives was published. This issue contains interesting papers on cross border water management (Iberian peninsula), on decentralisation in irrigation management (Philippines), and on the emergence and functioning of river committees in Tanzania. This paper by Hans Komakech and Pieter van der Zaag uses Elinor Ostrom’s Institutional Analysis and Development Framework to analyze the organization and effectiveness of river committees. One of the conclusions is that the best performing river committees largely complied with five of the eight design principles distinguished by Ostrom, which indicates that not all principles are necessary for effective water institutions.
